The OHA Premier League Women finished the regular season with a 4-1 win over University on Sunday 27-9-20. With an 11 win/2 draw/2 loss outcome from the shortened 15-game 2020 season, OHA finished in second place and will face close rivals and ladder leaders NWG next Saturday (3 October) in the qualifying final. Against Uni, Julia Gunn scored one goal, to take her tally to 12 for the season, in PL second place and only 2 goals adrift of league top-scorer Grace Calvert.
Jules was also the season’s highest PL scorer for OHA, men or women. Sof McLeod netted twice and Maddi Brooks added another. All finished in the top five PL Women’s goal scorers. A win on Saturday would take OHA direct to the Grand Final. They will need to bring their “A” game, but as the only team to defeat NWG this year, they most certainly can do it.
Don’t miss the action!
The OHA PL Men played out a “dead rubber” against Uni on Sunday 27/9/20, resting a couple of players in preparation for the same two sides meeting again in the Elimination Final next Saturday. The game was a bit of a tennis match and the lead changed hands several times until Uni scored an ‘after-the-final-siren’ PC to hand OHA a 3-4 loss. Uni’s Ben Read targeted the post-man side of the goal in multiple PC drag-flicks, scoring three times in the same zone, although denied on a couple of other occasions. OHA goals came from Ollie Smith, Jo Murphy, and Sam McCambridge. Uni and OHA have not been separated by more than a single goal in their meetings this season, so the final will be a hard-fought affair. OHA finished the 15-match season in 3rd place, with 8 wins/2 draws/5 losses, but as the only team to match ladder-leaders NWG across their three meetings, so they have the ability to go deep into the finals if they can produce their best.
