It was a top of the table clash in the PL Women this week
The “top-of-the-table” clash between Derwent and OHA PL Women at 6pm on Saturday 27 July was a worthy encounter and very little separated the sides, but the final result was a 1-2 loss for OHA. OHA remain in 2nd place, now 3 points behind Derwent, and 5 points ahead of third-placed NWG.
With three rounds to go, OHA have secured a finals berth, but the double chance is still undecided, so there is still a lot to play for ahead of the finals series. A pass from Maddi Brooks to Julia Gunn produced a run to the side of the circle and a great ball across the face of goal to Hannah Richards, whose deflection attempt was thwarted by the diving ‘keeper.
Minutes later however, an almost identical sequence was capped off by a great goal to Hannah, and OHA celebrated a 1-0 lead. This was held into the second half, but then Derwent found two unanswered goals that turned the result on its head. OHA defender Esther Scott was floored by a ball to the right eye before half-time and needed a little first-aid. Fortunately she escaped major injury, and hopefully will make a rapid recovery, although I imagine she has an impressive ‘black eye’.
