When OHA Men’s Hockey Club was formed in 1936, it took some 23 years for them to secure their first A Grade premiership.

After finishing top of the ladder they went on to convincingly defeat Waratah 3-0 in the grand final.

The team members were:

Back Row:         Ian Hocking (vice-captain), John Spencer, Bill Casimaty, Laurie Ford, Ian Hallam and Peter Wilks

Front Row:        Ian Crombie, John Schumack, Ian Howie (captain/coach), Glen Twidale, John Taylor, Ralph Tapping and Ron Innes (GK)

The game report noted:

‘The match was played on a sodden ground.  The game however, was of surprisingly high standard, and patches of excellent hockey were seen.  From the outset OHA adapted themselves better to the conditions and as the match progressed assumed supremacy.

Hocking was brilliant in defence for OHA and repeatedly broke up dangerous forward moves.  OHA made the most of their successful attacks down the left side where winger Twidale was in top form repeatedly breaking away from his opponent.  Half backs Spencer and Howie controlled play in the midfield for OHA and drove their side into attack with intelligent distribution.’

Goal scorers were John Taylor, Ian Hallam and John Schumack
