OHA A-pool men have had a mixed start to the 2019 season.
Facing the 2018 grand-finalists in consecutive matches, the OHA M1 team produced a win against NWG, and a draw against Derwent, to establish OHA as a force to be reckoned with this season.
Perhaps the father-son combo of Daniel and Jaxon Sproule has inspired the M1 guys? Or maybe it is the valuable experience of Premier League hockey gained while covering absent friends for the first few games of the season?
We look forward to continued M1 wins, and Rowan Bridley’s photos on the OHA Facebook page.
With five players from the OHA Premier League men’s 2018 Premiership team unavailable at the start of the 2019 season, it was always going to be a tough assignment facing the other 2018 finalists in the first three games, especially when our absent players included our top four goal-scorers from 2018.
On the positive side, it is providing exciting opportunities for upcoming younger players to test their skills at the top level and learn from the experience. Losses to NWG and Derwent have the OHA PL Men in 5th place temporarily, but looking to fight back as the season unfolds.
Nick Leslie has led by example and is playing like he intends to retain his PL best and fairest award from 2018. It will be interesting to watch how his team develops over the year. Get out there and support them in the grand-final replay against Uni on Saturday March 30 at 3 pm!
