Despite the challenges that 2020 presented to our hockey community, COVID-19 couldn’t stop the pilot program of the Premier League Men’s Mentoring Program! The mentoring program has had a wonderful start and it’s all thanks to the strong support from the Premier League Men’s coach, Nick Leslie and the group of mentors from the team.
The PL Mentoring Program was developed in order to help create connections between our juniors and A Pool. The idea was to create pathways for our junior players into A Pool, in a supportive and development focused manner. The boys were selected from participants in the Junior Academy (held in February this year) by our Premier League Men’s coach and then paired with a mentor from the Premier League team. Mentors and mentees were partnered for the 2020 season. The mentoring partnership included opportunities for the mentee to shadow their mentor during the PL games (attending the pre-game, game and post-game activities), support during clinics and support for end of season games (the junior finals).
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the mentors, mentees and parents for their support during the pilot of the PL Mentoring program.
