OHA Premier League Men played a see-saw 3-4 loss to close rivals Derwent on Saturday, in the annual “John Harris Cup” round. It was a fast and nail-biting match, only decided in the final minutes. OHA got the early jump, courtesy of a PC converted by Jo Murphy. Soon after it was almost 2-0, but a Sam McCambridge field goal shot ricocheted off the post; then Derwent landed their own PC goal just before quarter-time to go 1-1. After another Derwent PC score, Sam grabbed a goal back for OHA from a clever deflection. The third OHA goal came from Jayden Vince striking close-in. Derwent then claimed a somewhat controversial goal with a deflection that appeared to come off a defender rather than the striker, but was awarded in any case, to take the score to 3-3. OHA also looked a bit unlucky to be denied a Penalty Stroke when Alex Moir was brought down in the attacking circle, and they couldn’t convert the PC that was given instead. With minutes to go, Derwent grabbed a 4-3 lead. OHA got a PC on the siren for a further chance for a draw, but it wasn’t to be. This was their first loss in the past six matches, and leaves them in third place, making a top two-finish more difficult to achieve – but not impossible – with four matches to go.
