After being treated to goals galore from our PL Women, following a 7-0 defeat of Derwent in Round 5, and an 8-0 defeat of Canterbury in Round 6, Rounds 7 & 8, saw the OHA Premier League women suffer their first losses of the season.

Round 6 saw a tight 1-0 loss to second-placed NWG, followed by a close 2-1 loss to Diamondbacks last Saturday. These consecutive losses saw the PL Women relinquish top spot on the ladder to NWG. Let’s hope they can claim back to back wins this week from the mid-week game played Wednesday night against Derwent, and the clash with University on Saturday!

Round 7 – OHA v NWG

The opposition played well, and OHA struggled to link passes and find the flow that has characterised their season to date. Still, it was a close fought match and even up to the final couple of minutes there were opportunities to salvage a draw. The NWG strikers threatened all day, but OHA ‘keeper Evie Dalton made important saves, and defender Ellie McDonald put in a solid game that displayed her growing poise at this level. OHA retained top spot on the ladder and will be looking to put the loss behind them in next week’s match against top four contenders Diamondbacks

Round 8 – OHA v Diamondbacks

Top spot on the Premier League Women’s table was relinquished to NWG after OHA lost a tight game to Diamondbacks 1-2 on Saturday. During their first encounter in Round 3, OHA had protected a one goal lead in the face of constant DBacks attacking pressure. This time the opposite was true. OHA’s Jean Flanagan levelled the scores at 1-1 with a PC hit, before Diamondbacks secured a 2-1 lead in a PC, after a couple of initial saves by Evie. As the rain came down solidly in the second half, OHA mounted multiple attacks and came within a whisker of scoring on several occasions, thwarted by some good goalkeeping and a simple lack of luck with deflection opportunities. These two sides are well matched and the next time they meet will be important for pre-finals ascendancy. OHA women now have the 6.15 pm game on Wednesday 19th August against a resurgent Derwent, and then play Uni on Saturday 22nd.
