In the PL Women’s game, Maddi Murphy opened the scoring with a clever deflection straight out of the playbook of Coach Sam McCambridge. Murphy put on a strong midfield display throughout the match, to rank as one of the Ships best. When she released Sof McLeod forward to score, OHA opened a handy 2-0 lead. But D/Backs kept peppering the goals through multiple penalty corners. After they finally scored to reduce the OHA lead to a single goal, the game was truly on. OHA ‘keeper Evie Dalton, who was rocking new pink and black leg-guards, was the difference between the sides in the second half, making multiple saves to enable OHA to hold their slender lead through to a win on a cold night.
Sam McCambridge scored four trademark close-in goals in the PL men’s game, while the “goalsmiths” Ollie and Will turned sibling rivalry into something positive, with a score each. The match was a bit scrappy at times, but the highlights reel will look sparking, because the OHA goals came from beautiful passages of play characterised by great vision and accurate passing.
