Congratulations to our six OHA grand final teams who battled it out in atrocious conditions last weekend. The weather gods were not kind, with our teams battling rain and strong winds on both Friday night and Saturday. Still, it didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of our OHA faithful who were out at the turf cheering on all our teams across the weekend.

On Friday night at 6pm, our 3rd Grade Men Red kicked off Grand Final proceedings. In a close game sadly they weren’t able to get the equaliser to take it to extra time with Diamondbacks taking the title. At 8pm both our 4th Grade Men Red and 3rd Grade Women Blue took to the field in driving rain and freezing temperatures. It wasn’t the night for our 3rd Women to shine with NWG dominating the GF to take out the final. But on turf 2 our 4th Men Red brought some light to an otherwise dark night by scoring a golden goal in the first lot of extra time, to claim not only minor the premiership, but the 2019 PremierSHIP title as well, making it ‘Back to Back to Back’ PremierSHIPS!!

Congratulations to our 4th Grade Men Red!

Saturday was another cold, wet day with three more teams in action – our 2nd Grade Men, 1st Grade Women & our PL Women.

After finishing the season undefeated in 2019, with their only loss for the season in the Semi-finals, the expectations were high for our 2nd Grade Men to claim the title, but it was not to be. After a hard fought game which saw many chances slip by, University were able to sneak one past the keeper late in the second half and held on for an unexpected win. No doubt the 2nd Grade guys will be out to seek redemption next year.

The rest of the day didn’t quite go to plan either with our 1st Grade Women also going down in a tough contest against NWG. After claiming the minor premiers title but losing in the semi-final, the girls were revved up & raring to go but as we all know, grand finals are fickle things and don’t always go to plan.

Then all eyes turned to the Women’s Premier League Grand Final. In what was “…one of the greatest grand finals in recent memory…” our girls did the club proud – fighting tooth & nail right to the bitter end.
Unfortunately that last elusive goal to take the game to extra time eluded them and Derwent claimed the title of 2019 Premiers. But from wooden spooners in 2017 to consecutive grand finals in 2018 & 2019, our Premier League women have done the club proud. Well done girls on a terrific season.

Let’s hope that 2020 brings some more joy to the OHA faithful & a bag of PremierSHIP medals!
