WOW! The OHA PL Men set down a marker for the rest of the season with a 5-0 thrashing of second-placed NWG, on 15-6-19.
One for the true believers. With top-placed Derwent the only other side to claim 3 points this weekend, OHA made their first entry into the top four in 2019, and will be looking for continued strong results to keep them there.
OHA played great hockey throughout, but could only find one goal in the first half – a brilliant sliding deflection to Jo Murphy from a Sam McCambridge pass. So the second half started on a fine edge, but then OHA tightened the screws to score four more goals to run away with the match.
Kurt Mackey, Jo Murphy and Will Boyce dominated the midfield and supplied plenty of passes to the on-form forwards.
Sam McCambridge scored twice, and also set up a Penalty Stroke goal when he was fouled by the NWG keeper. Will Smith converted this neatly.
The other goal came from a fine finish by Alex Moir, who was a busy player.
To add defensive polish to the performance, OHA only conceded one penalty corner in the whole game, and that was run down by the defence. NWG was only able to get a single shot on target, which was well blocked by Toby Paynter in goals and cleared by twin brother Ned.
