Tasmania’s elite and emerging athletes were handed 2019 Tasmanian Institute of Sport scholarships in Hobart last Friday

High performance scholarships have been assigned to 57 athletes across 11 sports, with an additional 15 scholarships offered through the talent development program across four sports.

Six previous scholarship holders continue their relationship with the institute as associate athletes.

Athletes represent sports including cycling, archery, rowing, swimming, canoeing, hockey, athletics, weightlifting and the new Olympic discipline of skateboarding.

Scholarship athletes benefit from a range of services including high performance coaching; sports science and technical analysis; strength and conditioning coaching; training and competition equipment; national and international training and competition experiences; athlete well being and engagement advice & financial support.

Commonwealth Games medallists Hamish Peacock (javelin), Jake Birtwhistle (triathlon), Amy Pauwels (nee Cure) (track cycling), Kaitlyn Fassina (weightlifting) Jeremy Edwards and Eddie Ockenden (hockey) are returning scholarship holders.
