Premier League Hockey – July 30
There was an explosive start to the round 16 Women’s Premier League match between O-H-A Hockey Club and Derwent Hockey Club, with both sides scoring early goals. Ella Berresford continued her excellent form and scored inside the opening minute for the Ships, but that was cancelled out by Lauren Canning’s goal just 3 minutes later.
Louise Maddock converted a penalty corner late in the 2nd quarter to send the Strikers into half-time with the lead, and looked good for it until OHA rallied late in the third quarter to find an equaliser through Nellie Paynter.
The Ships then took the lead back in the final quarter, with Maddison Brooks finishing off a strong move with a reverse-stick shot and goal. OHA had to fight for the points, though, as Jessica Chesterman saved one shot off the line and ‘keeper Evelyn Dalton was regularly called into action.
