SUSAN Brooks can recall playing for the Van Demons in the Australian Hockey League just six weeks after giving birth to twins Maddison and Taylor Brooks in 2004. “I can remember travelling to Brisbane and Adelaide for away matches and the girls came along for the trip,” Brooks senior said.
Fourteen years later, Brooks is still playing Premier League hockey for OHA with her twin girls also in the side, carving out their own hockey careers.
Maddison, 13, was last week named player of the tournament and leading goal scorer at the national under-15 championships playing alongside defender Taylor. Incredibly, it was her second consecutive player of the tournament award at under-15 level and the pair are still eligible in 2019.
Tasmanian Institute of Sport ETS coach Ilene Carr said both girls had strong performances, with Maddison playing in midfield and Taylor in defence and both have big futures in the sport.
“It is a fantastic achievement for Maddi to win back-to-back tournament MVP awards, possibly the only other Tassie athlete to do this is Eddie Ockenden,” Carr said…
